So Christmas is coming and I’m sure we are all thinking of gift ideas for our little ones. After Emilia’s birthday I asked on my social media if people would be interested to read about some of the gifts she’s really loved. The majority said yes so here we are.
I actually spend a long time researching gifts for Emilia, I don’t want to spend money or others to spend money on things that she is unlikely to play with or that won’t last. Whilst some gifts are based on her current interests, I also want to buy presents that will help her development. Emilia is really into imaginative play and so I wanted to encourage that as well.
So these are some of the gifts she received for her 3rd birthday. These have been the biggest hits.
Melissa & Doug Wooden Ice Cream Counter | Pretend Play | Play Food | 3+ | Gift for Boy or Girl – This is really good quality and perfect for little hands. It’s robust but easy to move around. The scoop works well and we have lots of fun playing ice cream shops. I imagine it will be played with for years to come as she develops. For example she can take orders on the wipe clean menu and we can learn about money. It is quite expensive but definitely one of our top gifts.
Emma Bridgewater Polka Dot Melamine in House Tea Set, Multi, 250 x 160 x 200 cm – We had a small tea set from when Emilia was younger and she has recently started playing with it again so I knew this would be a hit. Emilia loves playing pretend tea parties sometimes with a pretend biscuit. It’s quite expensive but is such a lovely set that again I feel will last. As it’s melamine we can put water in it without fear of damaging it unlike wooden sets, so perfect for a teddy bears tea party.
Hungry Hippos Game – This has been by far the best present we got Emilia. She absolutely loves it. She will even play it on her own. She’s not competitive with it she just wants to feed all the hippos. It is lovely though to start playing games as a family (well not Ava yet) and I can’t wait to add to our board game collection.
Ravensburger Puzzles – Emilia absolutely loves puzzles but finds a lot of the ones for her age easy. These were bought for her by her Uncle and Auntie and they are perfect. She got a selection of 49 piece puzzles and they challenge her but she can do them. They keep her entertained for a while and she feels a real sense of accomplishment when she completes them.
Top Bright Easel – We had considered getting Emilia an easel for a while and she definitely loves using it. With a white board, a chalkboard and a roll of paper it covers all bases. She often takes herself off to her playroom and draws,. She loves it and is turning into a budding artist.
Tuff Tray – I haven’t debated a tuff tray for a while, as I thought it would motivate me to do more play set ups. And well it’s definitely done that. We put something out for Emilia everyday and she loves coming down to see what is on her tray in the morning. I don’t necessarily think it’s something you need to do play set ups but I have definitely found it’s motivated me.
She did get other bits for her birthday as you’ve possibly seen on my Instagram but these have definitely been the biggest hits. I really hope they give you some Christmas gifts ideas for your little ones.
